There has been a lot of speculation as of late, regarding social signals (Links from social networking sites) and their authority with the search engines. We know now that Google does take social links into account, and many SEO’s have predicted that the future of search will rely more heavily on these social signals than traditional links.
But should our focus shift from traditional links just yet? Are social signals already replacing links?
Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land asked that same question while sitting down with Google’s Matt Cutts at the SMX conference in Seattle. Matt Cutts’ answer tells us that, maybe… people are jumping the gun a bit.
